ABOUT SAINIK SCHOOLS

The idea of Sainik Schools was given by the late V K Krishna Menon. He also served as our Defence Minister in the early 1960s. These schools were envisioned as exceptional residential educational institutions designed to cater to bright young minds, particularly from rural areas. The aim was to prepare them for the demanding physical, mental, and intellectual challenges of the Officer Cadre in the Defence Services. Traditional schools lacked the necessary infrastructure to nurture these qualities effectively.
Sainik Schools provide specialized training that not only prepares students for military service but also shapes their character and instills a sense of responsibility. The goal is to produce well-rounded individuals who can contribute positively to society and excel in various fields.

SAINIK SCHOOL ENTRANCE EXAM

The Ministry of Education in the Government of India has established the National Testing Agency (NTA) as an independent and self-sustained premier examining organization under the Societies Registration Act, of 1860. NTA’s primary objective is to conduct examinations that are efficient, transparent, and meet international standards. These exams are designed to assess the competency of candidates seeking admission to prestigious higher educational institutions.
On the other hand, the Sainik Schools Society operates as an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. This society oversees the operation of Sainik Schools, which are English-medium residential institutions affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Sainik Schools play a vital role in preparing cadets for admission to prestigious defense training academies like the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla (Pune), the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala, and other officer training academies across the country.
Currently, there are a total of 33 Sainik Schools spread across India, and they offer admissions at the Class VI and Class IX levels. Admissions to these schools are granted based on the performance of candidates in the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE).
